Motherboard - Interrupt Controllers #1 and #2 Testing

QuickTech Self Boot  verifies the system’s Interrupt Controllers during this test. These controllers contain Interrupt Mask Registers;    In-Service Registers; Interrupt Request Registers, and all Interrupt Request Lines. All channels of the Interrupt Controllers are checked for stuck; false, or missing interrupts.

Interrupt Controller 1 is used to prioritize up to seven system hardware interrupt requests and then sends a master interrupt to the CPU. Channel 0 is used for a real-time clock update. Channel 1 is used by the keyboard whenever a key is pressed. Channel 6 is used by the floppy disk drive. Channel 2 is used to cascade Interrupt Controller 2. The remaining Channel 1 interrupts are used by serial and parallel ports. Interrupt Channel 2 is used to prioritize up to eight system hardware interrupt requests and then sends a master interrupt to the CPU. Channel 8 is used by the CMOS/Calendar. Channel 13 is dedicated to the math co-processor. The hard disk drive uses Channel 14 and the rest of the Interrupt Controller Channel 2’s are reserved for system expansion.
